2016 Comprehensive Pulse Class Series

Hello Friends and Colleagues,

I hope you are all well and thriving in your practices.  I have been out of touch and away from teaching for several years while raising my son.  I am pleased to announce that I am back to offering NCCAOM certified continuing education classes, and will be teaching a comprehensive, 60-hour, 4 weekend series on pulse diagnosis in the coming months.  The series will cover completely my method of pulse diagnosis that I have used successfully as my primary diagnostic for the past 15 years of my practice.  I have never taught the system in its entirety before, and am excited to finally be sharing this with the community.

Would you help me, please, by spreading the word and passing along the flyer across social media and other connections with your own friends in the profession.  Thank you for your time and your support.  I wish you all the best for 2016, and hope to see you at the upcoming classes!

Warmly,
Zach Parsons
Licensed Acupuncturist

Easy Pulse Diagnosis
(that works for everyone and every style of acupuncture!)
with Zach Parsons, M.Ac., Lic.Ac.

Have you always wanted to have a better grasp of pulse diagnosis?
Do you feel that pulse diagnosis just never made sense -
and that something must be wrong with YOU for not understanding it by now?
Would you like to be able to discern an appropriate pattern diagnosis
without your patient ever saying a word?

In this series of four weekends for acupuncturists and students of all levels, a clear, simple method of pulse diagnosis will be shared in its entirety. Once assimilated, this information will enable you to quickly analyze any pulse in a clinical setting and allow you to confidently choose a treatment protocol based upon it.

***Weekend I: The Basics (4/23-4/24) - We demystify the hidden language of the pulse and provide you with all the tools you’ll need to decipher complex organ/meridian imbalances.
Weekend II: The Yang Pulses (5/21-5/22) - We delve into the exploration of how Yang Deficiency and Excess reveals itself in the pulse, and how to base treatment off of pulse diagnosis.
Weekend III: The Yin Pulses (6/11-6/12) - We refine our perception of Yin Deficiency and Excess through pulse quality clarification and suggested point selection and modalities.
Weekend IV: The Classical Pulses (7/9-7/10) - We’ll learn to interpret the classical pulses as significant clusters of the qualities already discussed, which demand specific considerations.

With compassionate and caring attention to detail, Zach will walk you through a methodology he’s been refining for the past 15 years - one he uses successfully in the clinic as the sole means for diagnosis.  From the simple basics to common and complex patterns, you will end each weekend with confidence in your new skills and a sense of developing expertise
that will become mastery of this rich and valuable source of information about the body.

Pulse Diagnosis Across Different Styles of Acupuncture

Thanks to everyone who took the time to visit the blog and read about the upcoming class on pulse diagnosis.  A HUGE thanks also to everyone who shared a link or reposted the class announcement.  One thing I have discovered is that I am bit behind the times, and really don’t understand too much about all this inter-webs stuff.  So, again, THANK YOU for helping me reach our colleagues to offer what I think will be a really wonderful and needed class for many people.

I have gotten several e-mails asking what “For Everyone and Every Style of Acupuncture” means.  So here’s the skinny on the current FAQ:

I have been using pulse diagnosis as my primary or sole method of diagnostics for over 15 years now.  There IS a universal language of the pulse in acupuncture.  In my class I teach you how to understand this language.  The pulse does not speak to us in terms of TCM or Pre-TCM or Japanese Meridian Therapy or Five Element or any other distinct style.  The pulse speaks to us in the language of the Classics.  So if you practice a style of acupuncture that can trace its roots to the Classics, you will find it easy to learn pulse diagnosis and tailor what I teach to work in your own personal style.  Don’t feel like your knowledge of the Classics is up to snuff?  That’s OK!  Whatever you need to know, I’m going to walk you through it anyway.

Beyond the style or styles you practice, here are some common indicators that this class is for you:

Perhaps when you take the pulse, you use it mostly to confirm what you have already decided from talking and other diagnostic methods.  So a “rapid” pulse is all you need to feel in the vessel to green-light what you are already planning to do.  If so, this class will broaden your scope and introduce you to some greater nuance that will open you up to changing up your point selection and pay off with even better clinical results.

Perhaps when you take the pulse, you are deciding from among a very small number of options.  So if you are only looking for which of four SHO you will treat, this class will expand on those distinctions and help you understand the progress of disharmony from the initial imbalance to its spread through the organ-meridian system.  This will make your treatments more effective and immediate, which will pay off with even better clinical results.

Or perhaps when you take the pulse, you are overwhelmed by all the things you feel and the sheer beauty of the life flowing under your fingertips.  If you find that it is difficult to interpret the pulse beyond a cacophony of noise, this class will help you keep your center and ALWAYS be able to gather the information you need.  And you still get to appreciate the gorgeous “view” of the pulse.

And finally, yes, there is more to this method that a single weekend class.  Pulse diagnosis is a very deep study, or at least it can be.  This class is about making the first steps EASY.  You can spend ten years or more mastering your pulse skills, but with the solid and clear framework you will learn in this class you will find it much MUCH easier than it will be if you go it alone.

I hope to see you at a class!  Comment below if you have any questions.

Easy Pulse Diagnosis (for Everyone and Every Style of Acupuncture)

Have you always wanted to have a better grasp of pulse diagnosis? Do you feel your pulse education just never made sense - and that something must be wrong with YOU for not understanding it by now? Would you like to be able to discern an appropriate pattern diagnosis without your patient ever saying a word?

In this class for acupuncturists and students of all levels, a clear, simple method of pulse diagnosis will be shared over two days. Once assimilated, this information will enable you to quickly analyze any pulse in a clinical setting and allow you to confidently choose a treatment protocol based upon it.

Part one (Saturday) will demystify the language of the pulse through lecture, diagrams, and practice feedback - transforming a formerly confusing subject to one of ease and clarity.

Part two (Sunday) builds on its predecessor and gives you tools to recognize the increasingly complex organ/meridian imbalances in the pulse presentation that are most likely to present in the clinic.

With compassionate and caring attention to detail, Zach will walk you through the simple basics of a methodology he’s been refining for the past 15 years - one he uses successfully in the clinic as the sole means for diagnosis. You will end the weekend with confidence in your new skills and a sense of developing expertise that, with practice, will become mastery of this rich and valuable source of information about the body.

Non-Inserted Needle Techniques

If you’ve been thinking about studying with Zach Parsons in the Boston area this year, this is your last chance for 2011!

In this weekend of lecture and exploration Zach will not only discuss the “Nine Ancient Needles” of the Ling Shu; you will experience how they were, are, and might be used according to each needle’s inherent characteristics. You will learn the vibration of different types of metals and how it, along with needle gauge and size, affects the body with each insertion. Join Zach as he demonstrates how to unlock and develop your own unique abilities to feel, understand, and guide Qi with the use of any needle and how harnessing these abilities can greatly improve the efficacy of your acupuncture treatments.

The skills you learn in this class can be used with any style of acupuncture, and applied with great success in healing your patients. No previous experience with “The Evolving Art of Acupuncture” necessary, all practitioners are welcome!

Free Talk on Thursday, September 22nd

This Thursday, I will be giving a talk at NESA in response to the question, "How does one approach needle technique as a path for acupuncturists?"  We will be gathered in Classroom 2 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.  I was asked to be a guest lecturer by my friend and colleague, Par Scott, whose regular class meets at that time.  Par has generously offered his own translational work on part of Ling Shu to accompany my musings on the 'Nine Ancient Needles' and their relevance in modern day acupuncture.  Because some practitioners not enrolled at NESA have expressed interest in attending, Par has opened up the class to as many people as will fit into the room.

In addition to talking about the historical development of the 'Nine Needles' and the many different ways to use acupuncture tools, I will be sharing my own personal journey to become more proficient in acupuncture skills.  Come and hear about the practitioners who inspired me to become better at my work, and learn some of the foundational exercises that will help you develop your own acupuncture techniques and help you go beyond what you can do with a needle today.

Since there is limited seating available, it will be on a first-come-first-served basis.   So come early, bring some good questions and maybe your dinner.  I hope to see you there!

Energy Signature and Vibration Techniques

NEW DATE: September 24-25, 2011

Come join Zach as he shares how to discern the type, strength, and chronicity of each pathogen by recognizing what he terms its unique “energy signature”. When pathogens invade the body, they initially lodge in the exterior, blocking Qi flow, creating Stasis, and setting in motion a cascade of events that can lead to many diseases – and leaving a palpable marker in its wake. You will learn each pathogen’s unique signature, and how it will feel under your finger when you palpate the point. We’ll spend time practicing the diagnosis of points, as well as the needle techniques best for effectively ridding the body of each pathogen

This information can be taken right into the clinic on Monday and applied with great success in healing your patients! No previous experience with “The Evolving Art of Acupuncture” necessary, and practitioners of all styles are welcome.

All Moved In

Hello everyone!  I am all moved in at my new home.  Here is a photo of my son, who is now almost 13 months (didn't THAT go by fast!), and as you can see in the photo above (taken about 4 months ago), he is cute as a button and loves acupuncture.  Such a surprise!  This photo was taken by the amazing photographer Felix Rust in Boston, Mass.  Felix took pictures of our wedding, and has done some gorgeous portrait shots, many of which now adorn our home and office.  You can see some of Felix's genius at his website: http://www.felixrust.com/.

Back in... um... January?  February?  A follower of the blog informed me that it was getting a little "stale."  And, indeed, I have completely slacked off writing posts since the baby was born.  My wife, Rachel, has informed me that since I am now feeling rested enough to play a good deal of Microsoft Hearts in my spare time, that it is an indication that I now HAVE some spare time and that it would be better spent talking with you lot.  And she is absolutely right.  As I come out of the year-one haze of having a baby (oh yes, there is a year-one haze) I am looking forward to posting more and more in the days ahead.

Here is what is planned for the near future:

I have recently been asked to give a talk about needle technique as a path for acupuncturists.  We are settling on a date for that, but I am hoping it will be in a few weeks.  The request came at just the right time for me.  I have been musing for some time now about how best to lay the foundation for more expert needle technique in first-year acupuncture students, and have developed a series of exercises which both prepare a new student for the process of needling, improve an established practitioner's needle handling, and facilitate learning several intermediate and advanced concepts of needling.  In addition to this upcoming talk, I will be putting those up on the blog over the next few weeks.

There are two more classes in this year's class series.  In two weeks, on September 24-25, I will be teaching Energy Signatures and Vibration Techniques.  And on October 22-23, I will be teaching Non-Insertive Needle Techniques.  I am excited to be teaching these classes again.  Energy Signatures and Vibration Techniques has always been a well-received class that is chock-full of useful material for practitioners of any style.  Non-Insertive Needle Techniques will show you just how easy it can be to harness your Qi more directly during treatment, and how much more wonderful all your needle technique will be because of it.

In late October, I will be starting a new project that will be closely tied to this blog.  Stay tuned for more on that.  Trust me when I say that this will be something that you do not want to miss!

It feels good to be back!
